Working Towards a Safe Society

The Aman Shelter for Women and Children provides life-saving services in Ras Al Khaimah and is working hard to improve human rights and eradicate domestic abuse. By providing practical and emotional support, we aim to help victims of violence and trafficking, while empowering them to fulfil their potential.

What Aman Shelter for Women and Children stands for

Aman Shelter supports victims of domestic abuse and human trafficking by:

  • Providing support services for survivors of domestic violence around the Emirate.
  • Working closely with our partners to create a system that responds to survivors’ needs.
  • We place survivors at the heart of everything we do. This means that:
  • We promote and deliver a needs-led and strength-based response to survivors.
  • We offer a safe space for victims to open up about their experiences.
  • We work to understand the diversity of survivors’ needs and to take action to support their human rights.

Success Stories

‘The Aman Shelter provided the safety net to help me rebuild my life.’

“I relocated to the UAE for a better life, attracted by the opportunity and values that the UAE is world-famous for. But, after a series of disturbing encounters, I sought refuge at the Aman Shelter, enabled by a supportive referral from law enforcement authorities after contacting the Shelter’s hotline. The Shelter’s expert team was there for me when I needed them most, helping me find my feet in the UAE and enabling me to recover my health. Crucially, they supported me to gain financial assistance for my family, in cooperation with the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking. Today, I’ve been able to rebuild my life and find a secure job that helps me to provide for my young family and start to plan for the future.”
Mallika, a 38-year-old mother from Asia.

‘The authorities in the UAE helped me regain my independence.’

“I fled my home country for personal reasons, in search of a means of providing for my child. I was targeted by human traffickers but fortunately made contact with the police once on UAE soil and was connected with the experienced team at Aman Shelter. Aman Shelter helped provide the practical and psychological support I needed, while the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking assisted with repatriating me and ensuring I reconnected with my family at home. Thanks to the support of authorities across Ras Al Khaimah, I’ve been able to put the past behind me and open a small retail business, giving me the financial independence I need.”
Evie, a 22-year-old from Africa.

‘From parental neglect to personal discovery, with the support of Aman Shelter’

“The Aman Shelter is a vital resource for women, and I cannot thank the team enough for the support they provided to me. I was manipulated and trafficked by an unscrupulous person in my home country, who tricked me into relocating to the UAE by misrepresenting the job that awaited me. I fled and was supported by the authorities in Ras Al Khaimah, who stepped in to ensure my wellbeing. They provided safe accommodation; medical assistance; financial support and psychological understanding, all which has helped me find the courage to take a positive step forward and create a stable life for myself.”
Michelle, a mother of one from Asia.

‘From parental neglect to personal discovery, with the support of Aman Shelter’

“The Aman Shelter stepped in to help me turn an unhappy and harrowing childhood around, following parental neglect. The team helped me break a pattern of destructive habits, including quitting smoking, by providing counseling; support to resume my studies, focusing on my reading and writing skills; and help to rediscover my personal connection with Islam. I am deeply grateful to the team at Aman Shelter and to the UNHCR, who also helped to reunite me with my family and heal the bond between us.”
Sarah, an Arab girl aged 13.
