The Aman Shelter plays an important role in Ras Al Khaimah’s dedication to protecting and strengthening the fundamental human rights of all individuals within its borders. This is in line with the broader commitment of the United Arab Emirates to ensuring national implementation of strong human rights commitments and a desire to honour international standards.

Human trafficking and domestic violence are issues across the world which impact every community. The UAE is a regional leader in combatting these crimes and supporting its victims. The Aman Shelter was established with the express purpose of helping ensure that victims of trafficking, abuse and domestic violence are provided with a safe and secure environment and receive the necessary support and assistance to rebuild their lives.

The Aman Shelter reflects Ras Al Khaimah’s commitment to human rights and the Emirate’s focus on standing shoulder to shoulder with the victims of trafficking, helping to ensure they have their rights restored, and that they can live a life free of violence and abuse.

In May 2023, the work of the Aman Shelter in Ras Al Khaimah was acknowledged before the United Nation’s Human Rights Council in the United Arab Emirate’s submission as part of the country’s Universal Periodic Review.

As part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and in line with the country’s broader promotion and protection of human rights, the Aman Shelter was identified in the submission as “a number of centres and institutions where victims can receive shelter and care from professional staff”.

The Shelter in Ras Al Khaimah, alongside those in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, is credited in the UAE’s report to the Human Rights Council as places which “take in victims of human trafficking from around the country and provide them with the support they need. The centres also play an important role in the voluntary return of victims and in their reintegration into society”.

The Aman Shelter’s 80089999 hotline was also recognised in the submission as one of the country’s mechanisms to report human trafficking.
